Conceived alongside “Pecker Power,” this is one of the earliest Japanese dub albums. The project was sparked when Ryuichi Sakamoto jokingly announced during a live talk that he would make Pecker’s album in Jamaica. The idea quickly became reality, and the album was recorded in Jamaica in 1980.
Sakamoto ultimately did not participate due to his busy schedule, making the album an especially interesting piece of Japanese music history. Featuring Minako Yoshida, Sly & Robbie, Augustus Pablo, Akira Sakata, Marcia Griffiths, and more. Highlights include “Beggar Suite,” featuring Minako Yoshida’s vocals, and “KYLYN,” originally composed by Ryuichi Sakamoto. An essential Japanese reggae / dub masterpiece.
