Originally aired in 1975 as the theme song for the detective TV drama Hagure Keiji, starring Mikijiro Hira and Masaya Oki.
“Hikageri no Machi” opens with a striking intro and delivers a superb slice of groovy Japanese kayō with a distinct Latin flavor, clearly influenced by the Sérgio Mendes & Brasil ’66 sound.
Paired with “Last Scene,” a beautifully emotional Japanese soulful kayō ballad, this 7" is a standout coupling from the era.
