Recorded in New York and co-produced by guitarist Issei Noro, “Down Upbeat” captures Casiopea’s classic lineup at its most polished and energetic. Noro’s precise guitar work is joined by Minoru Mukaiya’s bright synthesizers, Tetsuo Sakurai’s melodic slap bass and Akira Jimbo’s tightly controlled drumming. Tracks such as “Zoom,” “Road Rhythm” and “The Continental Way” combine technical jazz-fusion playing with streamlined funk rhythms and vivid electronic textures, making this a standout example of sophisticated 1980s Japanese fusion. |
