[:image1:] Featuring a trio of Joe Sample, Ray Brown, and Shelly Manne—each of whom could easily lead their own projects—the album incorporates some experimental elements, yet the performances are quintessentially jazz. It’s so well-executed that, in an extreme case, it could even serve as live-performance–style background music without feeling out of place.
